Mohit Gautam (born 26 June 1988) is an Indian journalist, social activist, and private investigator. He is best known for his work in investigative journalism and for serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Hindi newspaper Mission Jaihind. Gautam has been recognized for his work on corruption, human rights issues, and public accountability.
Early Life
Mohit Gautam was born in Patiala, Punjab, India, into a Brahmin family. From an early age, he developed an interest in investigation and truth-seeking, which later influenced his professional work in private investigation, journalism, and social initiatives.
Private Investigation
Gautam began his career in 2009 as a private investigator. He handled cases related to fraud, personal disputes, and corporate investigations. Known for his methodical and discreet approach, he gained experience in evidence-based analysis and problem-solving, skills that later contributed to his investigative journalism.
Journalism
In 2014, Gautam entered journalism and founded the Hindi newspaper, Mission Jaihind. He served as its Editor-in-Chief from 16 December 2014 to 31 March 2025 and is now a former Editor-in-Chief of the publication. Under his leadership, the publication focused on investigative reporting, ethical journalism, and issues related to corruption, governance, and human rights.
The newspaper continued publication until March 2025. In August 2025, the Office of the Press Registrar General of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirmed that the title Mission Jaihind was formally ceased following due process under the Registrar of Newspapers for India.
On 13 July 2025, Gautam founded the digital news portal Khabar.com.IN, where he serves as the Publisher and Editor. The platform focuses on digital-first journalism, aiming to provide timely and accessible news content to a wide online readership.
Professional and Organizational Roles
Since March 2021, Mohit Gautam has served as the Chief Functionary of the Press Journalists and Editors Federation (PJEF), Delhi, where he has been associated with matters concerning journalists’ welfare, press freedom, and professional standards.
He is also the Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Educational Training & Social Development Trust (Delhi), a role he has held since March 2016. The trust operates skill-training Centre’s that provide vocational training and capacity-building programs, particularly for youth and socially disadvantaged communities.
Political Affiliation
Mohit Gautam is an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has stated that his public and social work is guided by the ideological principles and organizational framework of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
